Owner Alicia Gutierrez poses at Rejuvenate with PRP in Fennimore, Wis.
Biz Buzz shares business tidbits from across the tri-states. This edition highlights businesses in Fennimore, Wis., and Dubuque.
A new health-centered business recently opened a second location in Fennimore, Wis.
Rejuvenate With PRP now operates at both 1175 Seventh St. in Fennimore and its original location at 2 Insight Drive in Platteville. All of the business’ services are based on a treatment known as platelet-rich plasma therapy, or PRP.
In a PRP treatment, a patient’s blood is drawn and processed via centrifuge. Plasma and healing-promoting platelet blood cells are separated from blood then reinjected at the sites of a patient’s chronic pain or injury.
According to Johns Hopkins Medicine, the treatment has scientifically verified results. It has been around since the 1970s, when doctors began to use it during intensive surgeries to minimize blood loss symptoms.
Owner and operator Alicia Gutierrez is a nurse practitioner with 18 years of experience in medicine.
“The biggest thing, when it comes to pain, is a lot of people let it continue until it becomes chronic — anything over three months,” she said. “Honestly, when something becomes chronic and your body has tried to heal it that long, it basically gives up. … I explain to my patients that the brain is making the phone call to your body but your body won’t pick up. By injecting (PRP) into an area, the body can no longer reject that phone call (as much).”
Because the method uses the patient’s own blood, there’s little risk of a bad reaction. Gutierrez says one of the only risks of the procedure is that it requires proper injection technique to avoid infections.
She uses the same method for a variety of orthopedic conditions, from injuries such as meniscus tears, hip labral tears or rotator cuff tears. She also addresses issues such as arthritis.
”My biggest satisfaction is that a lot my patients come to me with pain, so success means basically eliminating or reducing their pain to the point that they can live with it,” she said.
Gutierrez also does skin rejuvenation therapy treating wrinkles with micro injections and scalp injections to combat balding.
Most of the treatments are not covered by insurance, but she says health savings accounts can be used to pay for the expense. She’s hopeful the treatment will be added to insurance plans because she says orthopedic surgeons have begun to use it.
As the sole practitioner, Gutierrez alternates between locations based on appointments. The Fennimore location will have slots available as early as 7 a.m. and as late as 7 p.m.
For a consultation, Gutierrez can be reached at 608-331-0939.
A psychology practice opened in Dubuque in September, specializing in treatment of first responders.
Resilient Mind Psychology at 988 W. Third St., Suite 203, is owned and operated by Nicole Keedy, a licensed psychologist with 15 years in practice. She has been working with first responders for the past eight years.
“First responders are exposed to stressors and traumatic situations on a fairly routine basis that most people might not even encounter in a lifetime,” Keedy said. “It requires quite a bit of resilience to cope with the images, the stressors and the memories that might might show up after an event like that.”
She started expanding her specialized knowledge when she became an adviser for the Dubuque Police Department’s peer support team in 2022. She also provides annual wellness check visits to each officer on the force and, starting in January 2026, for the Dubuque County Sheriff’s Department, as well.
Her practice is the next step in increasing her availability, allowing first responders to seek her out on their own time.
Her model of cognitive behavioral therapy aims to shield responders against the “cumulative stress” of the job using mindfulness, tactical breathing strategies and health reframing of perspectives.
She especially emphasizes addressing trauma, obsessive compulsive behavior and anxiety with exposure therapy.
“Historically, the workplace culture of first responder departments has not involved a lot of attention to emotional health needs, but that’s shifting,” she said.
Leadership of local organizations has become much more supportive of mental health and emotional needs, she said.
Keedy’s promise to first responders is that the process is transparent the entire way through.
“I have learned that authenticity is crucial and gaining trust is essential for good resilience process for first responders, she said. “Trustworthiness and efficiency are really essential in their work and realistically, for their survival. And so, if I can’t provide a trustworthy and efficient and beneficial process where they can see clear evidence that it’s going to be helpful, then I’m likely not going to maintain their engagement.”

Physical Therapy Solutions will soon complete the move of one of its locations to a newly constructed space in Dubuque.
The company is set to host its open house at 5:30 p.m. Nov. 18, after the last few items have been moved to 390 Harrison St. from the old location at 245 Railroad Ave.
“We started in 2020, with just (my partner) Jason (Putz) and myself,” partner-practitioner Wesley Wedewer said. “Now we’re at eight physical therapists total. Just this year alone, we’re on track to add (three therapists to fill the new space).”
Four to five therapists will operate at the new location, including the three who previously practiced at 245 Railroad Ave. The new 6,300-square-foot facility — a leap from the old space’s 1,100 — will have room for office staff and a receptionist without introducing congestion.
The space’s most unique offerings will include pelvic floor therapy for females and males, specialist treatment for TMJ (jaw joint pain) and vestibular (dizziness, vertigo and balance) rehab.
Equipment will include a “little bit of everything,” Wedewer said, including a power rack for heavy weight lifting and even an indoor golf simulator to help therapists return aging clients to their mobility goals. The simulator will be available to clients by the end of the year.
“It’s a way for us to systematically look at their entire body, from their neck to their ankles to their feet,” Wedewer said. “We’ll be able to see if they have mobility restrictions — as we get older, we tend to get a little tighter. We can figure out ways to optimize movement.”
The simulator likely also will be used for recreation when business or practice-related events are held at the center. At the west side of the building, there’s an asphalt black top that will be painted like a pickleball court. It will serve as a general purpose sports area, “where it’s weekend warriors trying to get back into high-level activities or somebody in their 60s, 70s, 80s, playing pickleball.”
Cones and possibly a basketball hoop will help those involved in other sports get back in shape.
Physical Therapy Solutions’ 3080 North Cascade Road location will remain open, receiving some of the new hires.
Wedewer said one little-known fact patients can take advantage of is that in Iowa, physical therapy is direct access. This means patients in pain don’t need to go through a general practitioner and can schedule directly at Physical Therapy Solutions.
The location also offers a free used equipment checkout program, allowing patients free use of potentially expensive equipment such as crutches.
Hours are 7:20 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on weekdays, with the option to request an appointment outside of normal times.
