US stocks close higher as investors await Nvidia earnings – USA Today

U.S. stocks closed higher Aug. 27 as investors await earnings from tech heavyweight Nvidia after the market closes.
The S&P 500 added 15.44 points, or 0.2%, to close at 6,481.38, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average jumped 147.04 points or 0.3% to 45,565.11. The tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite was up 45.87 points, 0.2%, to 21,590.14.
The chipmaker’s earnings and sales are expected to jump from year-ago levels, but investors will scrutinize the company’s outlook to see how tariffs, China sales and artificial intelligence spending are shaping up. Nvidia has topped estimates with quarterly results in 11 of the last 12 reports.
Treasury yields inched higher as investors awaited a resolution to the White House’s attempt to fire Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook. The 10-year yield fell 2 basis points to 4.238%.
The White House’s 50% tariffs on Indian products took effect Aug. 27, a consequence of India’s purchases of Russian oil.
