Oklahoma Sooners climb in latest CFP Rankings after win over Alabama Crimson Tide – Sooners Wire

After their monumental win over the Alabama Crimson Tide on Saturday, the Oklahoma Sooners are in a prime position to make the College Football Playoff if they can take care of business the next two weeks and close the season 10-2. Before they can start making postseason plans, Oklahoma hosts Ahmad Hardy and the Missouri Tigers before closing the season with the LSU Tigers.
But after back-to-back road wins over Tennessee and Alabama, the Sooners have soared to No. 8 in the latest College Football Playoff rankings released on Tuesday evening.
The Sooners jumped up three spots after their win over Alabama, including leapfrogging the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. If the CFP were to start today, the Sooners would be slated to host a first-round game against those same Fighting Irish, who come in at No. 9 in the latest rankings.
At the top, it’s still Ohio State, Indiana, and Texas A&M holding down the top three spots. But with Alabama’s loss to OU, the No. 4 team is now the Georgia Bulldogs, followed by Texas Tech at No. 5. Just ahead of the Sooners at No. 6 are the Ole Miss Rebels followed by the Oregon Ducks at No. 7.
The Sooners control their own destiny at this point. If they beat Missouri and LSU, no small feat in the SEC, then they’ll likely be seeded no lower than eight. But depending on what happens across the country, they could continue to climb in the rankings over the next few weeks, again, if the Sooners take care of business.
And that’s the focus for Brent Venables and his Oklahoma squad. Go 1-0 this week against Missouri and let the chips fall where they may.
