Harry Potter Icon Jason Isaacs Joins Prime Video's Next Video Game Series – Collider

Prime Video’s new Tomb Raider TV series has just unearthed a new cast member. Venerable cinematic villain Jason Isaacs will be joining Phoebe Waller-Bridge‘s new video game adaptation. The series is set to begin production in 2026.
According to reports, Isaac’s role has yet to be revealed. It’s possible he’s playing Lara Croft’s father, who is an important part of the Tomb Raider mythos, given Isaacs’ extensive resume of on-screen villainy, there’s a good chance he’s playing an antagonist. Famed for playing loathsome roles in The Patriot, the Harry Potter films, and Star Trek: Discovery, Isaacs recently received his first Emmy nomination for his role as a troubled businessman and family patriarch on the third season of HBO’s The White Lotus. He can next be seen in the psychological thriller Victorian Psycho, alongside Maika Monroe and Thomasin McKenzie; the coming of age drama The Julia Set, with Chase Infiniti; and the hostage thriller Eleven Days, with Diego Luna and Rhea Seehorn.
An adaptation of the long-running video game franchise, the series will follow aristocratic archeologist Lara Croft through a series of thrilling and death-defying adventures as she faces threats both supernatural and all-too human. Croft will be played by Game of ThronesSophie Turner, and Sigourney Weaver will also star in the series in an unspecified role. The series will be written and showrun by Fleabag‘s Phoebe Waller-Bridge, as part of her overall deal with Amazon. The series lingered in development Hell for a number of years after the screen rights to the franchise lapsed following Croft’s latest big-screen adventure, but production has ramped up in recent months, and the series is slated to begin production on January 19, 2026. The character was previously adapted into two live-action films starring Angelina Jolie in the title role, and one with Alicia Vikander; an animated series, Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft, starring Hayley Atwell, recently debuted its second and final season on Netflix.
Waller-Bridge will co-showrun Tomb Raider with Chad Hodge (Wayward Pines). Jonathan Van Tulleken (Dope Thief) will direct and executive produce. The show is also executive produced by Waller-Bridge and Jenny Robins through Wells Street Productions; Dmitri M. Johnson, Mike Goldberg, and Timothy I. Stevenson through Story Kitchen; Michael Scheel; and Hodge.
Tomb Raider is set to begin production on January 19, 2026; no release date has yet been announced. Stay tuned to Collider for future updates.
