Netflix hasn’t officially purchased Warner Bros. yet, but we now have an update on what will happen to the Harry Potter reboot when it does.
After officially rejecting an “inferior” hostile rival bid from Paramount this week, it seems like Warner Bros. Discovery will officially become part of the Netflix family at some point in the next few years. The streaming giant has placed a $27.75 per share cash-and-stock offer for Warner Bros’ unit, with shareholders set to vote on the deal in 2026.
Not all film fans are happy at the prospect of the studio – a Hollywood mainstay since 1923 – falling into the hands of a service that has made no secret of its apathy towards the movie theater business. There are also those concerned about what will happen to current Warner Bros. properties, such as the upcoming Harry Potter reboot on HBO.
But if a recent update from Netflix is anything to go by, the Wizarding World is in safe hands.
Netflix has shared new key art to reflect its Warner Bros. acquisition, displaying an image of Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) from Stranger Things alongside an image of Harry Potter (Daniel Radcliffe).
It goes without saying that Netflix views Stranger Things as its crown jewel in terms of IP. It clearly views Harry Potter as the equivalent of Warner Bros., which would suggest that it has equally high hopes for the franchise’s future.

Netflix added a tagline for the merger, claiming that it will bring “more choice,” “more opportunity,” and “more value.”
In other words, the Harry Potter reboot is safe.
The show started filming its first season earlier this year, with Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter, Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley, and Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger. While we won’t see Season 1 on screens until early 2027, it sounds like audiences can expect new installments to premiere on an annual basis.
Harry Potter will film each season on an annual basis, similar to the filming schedule of the original films, which will reduce drastic changes in the appearances of its young cast.
With the Netflix-Warner Bros. merger first facing regulatory approvals, the deal is not likely to close until well into 2026. Once Netflix does get its hands on the Wizarding World, it doesn’t seem totally out of the question that the universe will expand at a rapid rate.
The streamer has a well-established track record of turning flagship franchises into ecosystems, expanding them through spin-offs, limited series, and character-focused stories designed to keep subscribers engaged year-round.
If Netflix applies that strategy here, Harry Potter could become more than a single prestige series. Ancillary projects exploring Hogwarts professors, lesser-known wizarding communities, or entirely new eras of magic would fit neatly into Netflix’s broader content model, particularly as it looks to anchor long-term franchises around globally recognizable IP.
Fans have long pushed for spin-offs focused on the Marauders era, aka the First Wizarding War and the lives of James Potter, Sirius Black, Remus Lupin, and Peter Pettigrew. Other ideas floated by Potterheads in the past include projects that take place during Tom Riddle’s journey to becoming Lord Voldemort.
