MEMBERS of Worcester Patriots have denied claims they intimidated marchers at a protest against violence against women and girls.
Several members of the group were part of the large crowd which marched through the city for Reclaim the Night on Thursday, November 27.
People who also took part suggested the Patriots members had been intimidating women throughout the event – something which the Patriots say is ‘malicious lies’.
They say they were part of the march in solidarity with victims of violence.
Milly Tant, one of the marchers at the event, said: “Reclaim the Night was a powerful and successful stand against violence against women and girls.
“The event was defined by solidarity and an overwhelming commitment to inclusion.
“This commitment was tested by the presence of the far-right Worcester Patriots, and the deep irony of their attendance cannot be overstated.
“A group claiming to champion VAWG protection turned up to document and intimidate many participants, including women, trans individuals, people of colour, and immigrants.
“Intimidation is a clear precursor to violence, and their presence directly contradicted the safety our march sought to create.”
Marie Stewart said: “The Worcester Patriots showed their true colours when they decided to try to intimidate women and girls taking part in the Reclaim the Night march through town.
“The courage of those women, many of whom have experienced abuse or assault, was inspirational.
“In contrast, the Worcester Patriots men chose to cover their faces while they filmed the marchers, without their consent, all while flying their ‘patriotic’ flags.”

A spokesperson for Worcester Patriots said: “We came together for something far bigger than ourselves – to raise awareness for the devastating reality of male violence against women and children.
“The night was filled with peace, love, and unity, a reminder of what truly matters.
“It’s heartbreaking that a small group of individuals are choosing to fuel personal vendettas and spread malicious lies, instead of standing with us in protecting those who are suffering.
“This cause deserves our full hearts, our full honesty, and our full focus.”
The spokesperson also stated they filmed the event to prove they had done nothing wrong.
Reclaim the Night Worcester is an annual event which raises awareness of the safety issues women face in public places, particularly at night.
The event has steadily grown since its inception in 2018, with hundreds of marchers now taking part.
