A body has been located in the search for a swimmer last seen at Maroubra at the weekend.
Emergency services were called to Maroubra Beach about 4pm on Sunday 1 February 2026 and were told a swimmer – a 30-year-old man – had failed to return to shore.
A search was initiated involving officers attached to Eastern Beaches Police Area Command, assisted by the Marine Area Command, LifeSaver21 helicopter, Surf Life Saving, and Marine Rescue NSW, but was unsuccessful.
The search resumed about 8am today (Tuesday 3 February 2026), and about 12.20pm, the body of a man was located by NSW Water Police, with the assistance of Surf Life Savers and Randwick Council Life Savers.
While a formal identification process is yet to be completed, the body is believed to be that of the missing swimmer.
A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
Marine Rescue NSW vessels and volunteer crews from the Middle Harbour and Botany Port Hacking units have this morning resumed the multi-agency search for a male swimmer who failed to return to shore at Maroubra Beach last Sunday afternoon (1 February).
Marine Rescue NSW Inspector Jane Shirriff said volunteers on board Botany Port Hacking 30 and Middle Harbour 30 conducted a coastal search closer to shore en route to the search area.
“Both Marine Rescue NSW vessels began a parallel line search offshore alongside NSW Water Police at 8.45am today (Tuesday 3 February),” Inspector Shirriff said.
“Our crews are focusing on an area from Clovelly Beach in the north to Malabar Beach in the south.
“Conditions have improved offshore, but it remains lumpy with a 2.5-metre swell and eight-knot winds.
“Our vessel crews are being supported by volunteer radio operators from Marine Rescue Sydney and Botany Port Hacking,” Inspector Shirriff said.

A coordinated search has continued since involving local police, Marine Area Command, Surf Life Saving, and LifeSaver21 helicopter.
The search was disrupted yesterday by heavy seas; however, is scheduled to resume at 8am today (Tuesday 3 February 2026), with similar resources.
A multi agency search is scheduled to resume for a missing swimmer in Sydney’s east.
About 4pm yesterday (Sunday 1 February 2026), emergency services responded to reports that a man swimming at the southern end of Maroubra Beach had failed to return to shore.
Officers from Eastern Beaches Police Area Command were informed that the man – aged in his 30’s – was in company with several friends at the time of the incident.
With the assistance of the Marine Area Command, Surf Life Saving, Randwick Council, Toll and Westpac Helicopters a coordinated search was conducted.
The search was suspended at 6pm, however, is scheduled to resume at 8am today (Monday 2 February 2026).

Marine Rescue NSW Inspector Andrew Harding said crews and vessels were rapidly deployed from the Middle Harbour and Botany Port Hacking units after 4pm.
“Both Marine Rescue NSW vessels are conducting a coastal search off Maroubra Beach alongside Water Police.
“Conditions are not favourable offshore this afternoon, with choppy seas and squally rain showers.”
“Volunteer crews on board Middle Harbour 30 and Botany Hacking 32 will continue searching this evening until instructed otherwise by NSW Police Marine Area Command.
“Marine Rescue NSW vessels and crews are on standby to assist should the search continue tomorrow,” Inspector Harding said.
