Motu Patlu
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) in collaboration with the Income Tax Department has launched a unique comic book series featuring the beloved cartoon duo Motu Patlu. This initiative aims to promote income tax awareness among school students in India under the government’s Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav campaign. The eight-part comics, available in multiple Indian languages, strive to make tax education fun, accessible, and engaging.
Each comic narrates simple, relatable stories where Motu and Patlu learn about the importance of taxes and how these contribute to critical public services such as infrastructure, healthcare, and education. By simplifying complex financial concepts, the series helps young readers develop a basic understanding of taxation and its role in nation-building. The new collab is reminiscent of Amar Chitra Katha’s partnership with CIBIL in August 2025 to promote credit awareness.
Published by the Directorate of Public Relations, Publication & Publicity under the Directorate of Income Tax, the comics are available for free download on the official Income Tax Department website. CBSE has urged all affiliated schools to share these comics widely among students, teachers, and parents and to integrate them into classroom activities and discussions to cultivate a culture of responsible citizenship and tax compliance.
Through this creative blend of entertainment and education, CBSE aims to nurture a generation of financially literate and responsible citizens who understand the value of paying taxes. The Motu Patlu comic series marks a light-hearted yet meaningful step toward introducing children to civic duties and financial responsibility early in life, supporting India’s broader educational and economic development goals.
