Rourkela: A 38-year-old man was arrested by Lephirpada police of Sundargarh district on Wednesday on the charges of killing his parents two days ago over partition of their ancestral land.Victims Manuel Toppo (70) and Benerika (65), natives of Dalkijharan village under Lephripada police limits, used to staty with their elder son Patris at Suarijor village. On Monday afternoon, Manuel and Benerika's younger son Patras Toppo, who stayed separately with his family, reached Patris's house and asked his parents for partition of their land. As Manuel denied, Patras got infuriated and severely beat his parents with an iron pipe.

Patras, along with his elder brother, took their critically injured parents to Sundargarh district headquarter hospital, where a doctor declared them brought dead. After coming to know that his parents passed away, accused Patras fled the hospital. On Tuesday afternoon, Lephripada police reached the hospital and started an inquiry. Based on an FIR, police registered a murder case and started searching for accused Patras.

A scientific team reached the house where Patras had assaulted his parents and collected some samples. The postmortem of the deceased couple was done.On Wednesday, a police team nabbed accused Patras from a forest, where he was hiding, and interrogated him. Police have seized the iron pipe by which he had beaten his parents to death."We are further investigating the case," said A K Das, inspector in charge of Lephripada police station.
