The grant program offers up to $25,000 for Randolph County businesses that have been in operation for at least 12 months, are in good standing and have not received funds previously through the county’s COVID-era revolving loan fund program.
Grants are for helping businesses prepare for potential future emergencies or shutdowns. Examples of eligible projects include implementing remote work tools, creating remote-friendly job roles and business continuity planning.
The deadline is Thursday, April 30.

Eli Lilly has reached a deal to purchase drug development firm Centessa Pharmaceuticals.
Lilly, a pharmaceuticals firm based in Indianapolis, will buy Centessa, which has been developing a new class of treatments for narcolepsy and other neurological conditions. The deal, valued at $6.3 billion, was announced last week.
“Orexin receptor biology represents one of the most compelling mechanistic opportunities in neuroscience as a direct intervention on the master switch of the sleep-wake cycle,” said Carole Ho, executive vice president and president of Lilly Neuroscience, in a news release. “Centessa has assembled a portfolio with the breadth and depth to improve wakefulness across a broad array of indications. Joining forces with Centessa colleagues means we can now pursue that potential at the speed and scale it deserves.”
Papers purchased
Paxton Media Group has purchased nine newspapers from Community Newspapers, Inc.
The acquisition included seven newspapers in North Carolina and two in Georgia. The largest in the group is The News Observer in Blue Ridge, Georgia.
“We are excited to add these newspapers into the PMG portfolio,” said Jamie Paxton. “PMG believes strongly in the value of local newspapers and the vital role they play in the communities that they serve. We appreciate being chosen to be the new stewards of these important community assets.”
Paxton, the fifth-largest newspaper company in the nation, also owns 17 Indiana newspapers, including The Courier-Times (New Castle), The Chronicle-Tribune (Marion), the Huntington Herald Press and the Connersville News-Examiner.
Holding conference
Indiana Chamber of Commerce will hold its annual Environmental Permitting and Reporting Conference on April 21 and 22.
The event will allow Indiana business leaders to hear directly from regulators and compliance experts. Session topics include environmental management fundamentals, Indiana’s industrial stormwater general permit and auditing best practices.
“We’re proud to offer the most complete and comprehensive permitting and reporting course offered in the state,” said chamber president and CEO Vanessa Green Sinders in a news release. “This conference will impart critical information to help business owners and operators better understand environmental permitting programs while providing the most current updates on reporting issues facing the regulated community.”
The conference will be available in person and virtually.

The training sessions are free and open to the public. Sessions in Allen County will be held April 8 and 29. Sessions in Marion County are slated for September.
