Dogs in Dagsboro are about to get a new place to run, play and be part of the pack.
Hounds Town USA, described as a “fully interactive doggy daycare, boarding and pet spa franchise,” is celebrating the milestone opening of its 100th location nationwide with its debut in Delaware.
Opening April 11 at 32183 DuPont Boulevard in the Savannah Square Shopping Center, Hounds Town Dagsboro introduces the brand’s signature “natural pack environment” to Sussex County, offering daycare, overnight boarding and spa services designed around natural canine behavior. Dogs socialize in supervised groups matched by size and temperament, with no breed or size discrimination, “creating a safe, structured environment where every dog can thrive,” representatives described.
The opening comes as pet ownership continues to rise nationwide, with 66 percent of U.S. households owning a pet, including 42.4 percent of households in Delaware who own a dog, with even higher rates in suburban and coastal communities such as Sussex County, where families are increasingly seeking reliable, professional pet care options for their pets while they work, travel, or manage busy schedules, representatives noted.
Hounds Town was founded in 2000 by former New York Police Department canine handler and commanding officer of the Nassau County Police Department Michael S. Gould, who built the concept around his understanding of dog behavior and pack dynamics. What started as a single location on Long Island has grown into a national network of 100 facilities where dogs spend their days in play groups matched by size and temperament.
“The result is a mentally and physically stimulating experience that ends in the signature Hounds Town Hangover — a tired, happy pup at the end of the day.”
The Dagsboro location will be owned and operated by husband-and-wife duo Frank and Reda Duffy, who are bringing the concept to Delaware, they said, “after recognizing a growing need for reliable pet care services in the region.” Frank Duffy will lead marketing and business development efforts, drawing on his background in sales leadership, while Reda Duffy will oversee daily operations and team management, leveraging her experience in large-scale commercial property management.
“We’ve spent a lot of time in this community and saw a real need for dependable pet care that dog owners can trust,” said Frank Duffy. “What drew us to Hounds Town is how simple and honest the approach is. Dogs don’t need luxury. They need structure, socialization and a safe place to be themselves. We’re proud to introduce that philosophy to Delaware — especially as the brand celebrates its 100th location.”
In addition to interactive daycare, overnight boarding and spa services, Hounds Town Dagsboro will also offer the brand’s “Hounds Town Seal of Approval” program, which provides local shelter dogs with free daycare and socialization to help improve their adoptability. The Duffys also plan to partner with local rescue groups and community organizations to support adoption efforts throughout the region.
Hounds Town leadership said the opening represents both a major milestone and a sign of continued momentum for the brand.
“Opening our 100th location is a proud moment for everyone at Hounds Town,” said Rob Flanagan, CEO of Hounds Town. “We’ve grown by staying true to what makes us different — expert-led dog care, a commitment to letting dogs be dogs and passionate local owners who care deeply about their communities. Bringing that experience to Delaware is an exciting step forward, and we’re grateful to Frank and Reda for leading the way.”
