Authorities dismissed online claims about expanding the Northbound Travel scheme.
Hong Kong’s Transport Department warned against fake online messages about cross-boundary vehicle travel, which risk misleading logistics operators and drivers about future arrangements on Guangdong travel.
Officials said social media posts had falsely claimed that the Northbound Travel for Hong Kong Vehicles (NBT) scheme would extend to other boundary control points. They also denied reports that details of the upcoming Southbound Travel for Guangdong Vehicles (SBT) had been released. The case has been referred to the Police for investigation.
The department clarified that the NBT currently applies only to the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge. The scheme allows private cars to travel without advance booking on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, except on specified dates.
It remains separate from the Shenzhen Bay Ad Hoc Quotas for Cross-Boundary Private Cars, which require individual trip applications, it said.
The government will brief the Legislative Council Panel on Transport on 17 October 2025 on progress under the SBT scheme. Officials said verified updates will be released through government channels to ensure accuracy of information.
According to the department, both schemes are intended to streamline cross-border vehicle flow and support logistics connectivity within the Greater Bay Area transport framework.
