ResearchPlus launched to strengthen voice of UK’s research-focused universities – Business MK

ResearchPlus, a new national alliance of ten leading research-focused universities, has launched with the aim of strengthening the collective voice of institutions that drive the UK’s research and innovation agenda.
Formally unveiled at a Parliamentary event in Westminster, the collaborative seeks to highlight the economic and social value of universities that deliver advanced research, innovation and skills across the UK.
Through coordinated engagement with government, industry and civil society, ResearchPlus aims to promote policies that foster economic growth, prosperity and wellbeing nationwide.
Professor Dave Phoenix, Vice-Chancellor of The Open University, said the university is proud to be a founding member. “Through ResearchPlus we’re committing to greater collaboration across the sector. By sharing expertise and aligning our efforts, we can make a more powerful collective contribution to the challenges facing UK research and innovation,” he said.
Co-Chair Professor Sasha Roseneil, Vice-Chancellor and President of the University of Sussex, said ResearchPlus will give a stronger voice to research-focused universities not currently represented by existing mission groups. “This partnership brings together universities renowned for excellence in research and innovation, with the aim of enhancing the strength of the UK’s research and innovation base to serve the common good,” she added.
Fellow Co-Chair Professor Andrew Jones, Vice-Chancellor and President of Brunel University London, underlined that the UK’s strength lies in the diversity of its higher education system. “ResearchPlus fills a gap, creating a powerful collective voice that enables greater strategic coherence in supporting the government’s priorities for growth,” he said.

The collaborative is open to other research-focused institutions sharing its mission. One of its early goals is to expand membership and amplify the contribution of universities under-represented in national policy discussions.
