The UK insurance sector continues to see strategic leadership changes as major players announce senior appointments aimed at driving growth, strengthening underwriting expense and accelerating operational transformation.
AXA XL bolsters property and underwriting leadership
AXA XL has promoted Sabrina Lahrmann (pictured, left) to head of international property, UK & Lloyd's, effective Nov. 1. Based in London, she will lead the underwriting strategy for AXA XL's international property retai business across the UK and Lloyd's market.
With over 20 years of underwriting and risk management experience, Lahrmann previously served as underwriting manager for the same division and has also held senior roles at AXA UK and Allianz. Her appointment underscores AXA XL's focus on navigating increasingly complex property risks shaped by inflationary pressures, geopolitical uncertainty and climate-driven losses.
AXA XL also confirmed the upcoming appointment of David Jones as chief underwriting officer of Retail, UK & Lloyd's, starting in the spring of 2026. Jones joins from QBE Insurance, where he served as director of underwriting for property and packaged business. He brings over two decades of experience, including leadership roles at Aviva and Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance Group.
Reassured names chief growth officer
Laura Mullaney (pictured, centre) has been appointed as chief growth officer, effective last October. Mullaney will oversee operational transformation projects including digital scripting, customer engagement strategies and the expansion of the company's partnership network.
She brings over 20 years of experience in financial services, having previously served as transformation director at Hastings Direct and managing director of distribution at BGL Insurance. Her appointment supports the company's broader push towards digital enablement and customer-centric operations.
NSM UK expands operations leadership
NSM UK has appointed Neil Thomsett (pictured, right) as operations director across its insurance distribution businesses, Kingfisher Insurance and Kingsbridge.
Thomsett will oversee technology and operations integration following recent investment in digital systems aimed at enhancing broking efficiency and client service.
Having held senior roles at Adler Fairways and UKGI Group, where he led process improvement and acquisition initiatives, Thomsett brings significant operational expertise. His appointment supports NSM’s broader growth plans under CEO Paul Havenhand, as the business continues to develop its niche personal and commercial insurance offerings, including motor trade, classic vehicle, motorsport, and specialist contractor coverage.
