BELOIT — Mercyhealth on Wednesday showed off a $20 million expansion of its 30-year-old Mercyhealth Beloit Clinic at 2825 Prairie Ave. that includes the second operating emergency room in the city.
Located right next to Beloit Health System’s Beloit Memorial Hospital, the expanded operation includes an ambulance bay, triage rooms, trauma room and diagnostic imaging on the first floor. The second floor has rooms for pediatrics, family medicine, gynecology, obstetrics, pediatrics, cardiology, allergy care and a physical therapy gym on the second.
Javon Bea, the 73-year-old Rockford, Illinois native who has been president and CEO of Mercyhealth since 1989, used the occasion not only to talk about the expanded Prairie Avenue clinic, but to highlight its investments into an expanded clinic on East Inman Parkway in the Town of Beloit as well.
“We didn’t stop here with this facility,” Bea said to a crowd of about 100 people, which included staff and several public officials. “We bought a new building just about a mile from here (1400 E. Inman Parkway) where we’re expanding our behavioral health services. We’re adding occupational medicine to support local employers and we’re laying plans to expand with a full service pharmacy with drive-thru options so that when patients leave here they can go to a pharmacy a mile away.”
Mercy began leasing half of the East Inman building in 2024 and then bought the 11-acre property in July for $4.3 million and took out a $1.75 million permit in October to build out the pharmacy. The two Mercy operations likely will employ more than 100 people when fully operational.
Bea said the Mercyhealth Beloit Clinic is modeled on the Mercyhealth North clinic in Janesville. It will feature both urgent care and emergency care on the main floor. Health professionals will assess visitors as they come in to see if there issues can be handled in as a less-costly urgent care case versus emergency room care.
“This eliminates that discussion families have of, well, should we go to the urgent care or do we need to go to the emergency room,” Bea said.
Mercy is holding a public open house on Saturday from 9 a.m. — noon and the clinic and ER will open Tuesday at 6 a.m. The ER will operate 24 hours a day every day, but Mercy will run urgent care services from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.
Now based in Rockford, Mercyhealth now operates in 55 communities in Wisconsin and Illinois. The nonprofit organization now generates more than $1.3 billion in annual revenue.
