The Chargers have locked down a key defensive piece, agreeing to a three-year contract extension with defensive tackle Teair Tart. The new deal, which is a commitment of up to $37.5 million with $20 million guaranteed, was finalized on Monday.
Tart, who joined the team as a free agent in 2024, quickly proved his value as a dominant run-stopper and reliable presence on the defensive line.

Here is how the general population reacted to the news, including a reaction from the man himself:
Earned every bit of that extension. 24 run stops (career high), 18 pressures-stepped up big time after Poona Ford’s departure.

The Chargers announce Mike McDaniel as OC, and then we get word that Teair Tart and the Chargers agreed to a 3-year extension. What a day for the Chargers.
Tart was on the short-list of players that needed to return. Well deserved. https://t.co/csSyrubldC

Big deal for #Charers Teair Tart 3-$37.5M ($20M Guaranteeed). Signed with Chargers in 2024. Resigned last Offseason for 1-$4.5M. Deal speaks to weakness of FA D-Tackle group. Thinnest group in recent memory.

Reminder that Teair Tart was in Dolphins training camp in 2024, admittedly didn’t look very impressive (or interested), was let go and then went on to shine for the Chargers. https://t.co/DVYD1ZKESy

Chargers learned from their mistake a year ago and locked up their best IDL!
Glad Teair Tart re-signed early. Great deal for both sides. https://t.co/UyhupIxhBz
