The “sad news” about the theater closure was announced via a Facebook post from a local and travel website.
It revealed that the Showcase Cinema de Lux in Randolph, Massachusetts – about 15 miles from Boston – would officially get the axe on Sunday, February 22.
The movie theater, located at 365 South Shore, confirmed the news on its website as well, saying “We truly thank you for your dedicated patronage and hope to welcome you to one of our nearby locations.”
The Showcase Cinema location is closing for good after opening nearly 30 years ago in July 1998, according to the Facebook post.

The announcement gives moviegoers roughly two weeks to catch a movie at the popular theater before it closes.
No specific reason for the shutdown was shared in Showcase Cinema’s statement, and no details were shared regarding the future of the property or the theater’s staff.
Showcase Cinemas, one of the oldest and most recognized theater chains globally, operates 22 venues in the US with locations in Massachusetts, New York, Ohio, and Rhode Island.
The impending Randolph shutdown comes as part of broader shifts in the cinema industry.

A legendary chain, for example, is saying its final farewell with total liquidation sales up to 70%.
Meanwhile, Family Dollar bosses have confirmed the closure of a store after 17 years with final sales.
