INDIANAPOLIS — Indiana Governor-elect Mike Braun has named his pick for the newly-created position of Secretary of Public Safety.
According to a release by Braun’s transition team, Jennifer-Ruth Green is a combat veteran with cybersecurity experience who would oversee eight state agencies. She is currently the Deputy Commander of the 11th Operations Group at Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling and has an executive training business: Battle Proven Leadership.
“Jennifer-Ruth Green’s remarkable military background and cyber security expertise make her uniquely qualified to advise on homeland security and support law enforcement,” Braun said in a statement. “Her combat experience and proven leadership will be invaluable in protecting Hoosier families and strengthening our emergency response capabilities.”
As Secretary of Public Safety, Green will oversee one of the eight “verticals” Braun has created for his cabinet. She will oversee eight agencies: the Department of Corrections, the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute, the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy, the Department of Homeland Security, the Integrated Public Safety Commission, the Parole Board, the Department of Toxicology and the to-be-created Office of School Safety.
As Deputy Commander of the 11th Operations Group, Green helps oversee the Air Force Band, the Air Force Honor Guard, and Air Force funeral services at Arlington National Cemetery. Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling is just across the Potomac River from Ronald Reagan National Airport in Washington, D.C.
She previously served as the commander of the 122nd Cyber Operations Flight in Fort Wayne, and deployed to Baghdad, Iraq, with the Multi-National Security Transition Command-Iraq.
In 2022, she ran for Indiana’s First Congressional District, but lost to U.S. Rep. Frank Mrvan.
