Hong Kong farm burglary loot pawned in Macau, nine arrested – Macau Business

Police have arrested nine people in connection with two burglaries at a freshwater fish and poultry farm in Tin Shui Wai, with stolen cash, watches, jewellery and gold worth more than HK$2.7 million (US$344,500) partly pawned in Macau, the South China Morning Post reported.
Senior Inspector Lam Ka-kit of Yuen Long district’s crime squad said the suspects — eight men and one woman — allegedly belonged to a syndicate with members assigned specific roles in the break-ins. “The force believes that some masterminds and accomplices of this case are still on the run and is endeavouring to track them down,” Lam said, adding that further arrests were possible.
The first burglary was discovered shortly after midnight on May 23 when a farmworker heard a loud noise and saw a private car leaving the property.
A safe containing HK$50,000 in cash and two watches had been moved from its position inside an office housed in a cargo container. Lam said the thieves fled after startling staff, leaving the safe intact and no property lost in that incident.
Police linked the nine suspects to both burglaries at the 30-year-old farm, noting that the syndicate had already disposed of some stolen items across the border.
Two people have been arrested and eight others placed under investigation in Spain over their alleged involvement in a network trafficking exotic animals, police said on Saturday.
