EUNAVFOR ASPIDES: 3rd Djibouti Maritime Security Symposium – EEAS


Rear Admiral Vasileios Gryparis, Commander of EUNAVFOR ASPIDES, together with a delegation from EUNAVFOR ASPIDES, participated in the 3rd Djibouti Maritime Security Symposium on June 24.

During the symposium, Rear Admiral Gryparis provided an overview of Operation ASPIDES’ role in promoting maritime security in the Red Sea, underscoring the importance of protecting commercial shipping and preserving Freedom of Navigation. He further highlighted the value of multinational cooperation, interoperability, and enhanced situational awareness in responding to today’s complex and interconnected maritime environment.

On June 25, Rear Admiral Gryparis held bilateral meetings with H.E. Dr. Denisa-Elena Ionete, Ambassador of the European Union to Djibouti; Mr. Mohamed Abdoulkader Moussa Helem, Minister of Communication, in charge of Posts and Telecommunications; and Ms. Safia Mohamed Ali Gadileh, Minister Delegate for the Digital Economy and Innovation.

The meetings provided an opportunity to discuss areas of mutual interest and to reaffirm the shared commitment to strengthening cooperation to support maritime safety and stability in the region.

Later that same day, Rear Admiral Gryparis met Colonel Wais Omar Bogoreh, Commander of the Djibouti Coast Guard, and exchanged views on regional maritime security.
