British singer Ed Sheeran has opened up about his friendship with pop star Taylor Swift amid rumors of a rift between the famous pair.
It was recently revealed that Ed learned about Taylor's August engagement to Travis Kelce via Instagram, which led to speculation about the state of both their personal and working relationship.
With 34-year-old Ed seemingly being left out of the loop, and Taylor releasing her album The Life Of A Showgirl in September, close to when he dropped his recent album Play, it was later reported that the dynamic hit-making duo's bond had allegedly become "strained."
However, Ed has since revealed that he saw Taylor a week after she accepted Travis' proposal, and they went on to enjoy a very long catch-up with each other.
"I'm not self-conscious about my relationship with her," the redhead singer said in a recent interview with Access Hollywood.
"We've been friends for very, very many years. We're super close and we see each other when we see each other, and when we see each other, we lock back into where we left off."
Ed continued, "My way of viewing it is like, me and Taylor are mates and I will see her. And I saw her a week after that happened, so I did that interview and then I saw her and you talk in person."
Speaking about social media and having a cellphone, Ed admitted that when you have the ability to be in constant connection with someone, you "sort of lose actual human connection."
Given that he isn't technologically tuned in, he's able to experience human connection in a uniquely personal way. He told the news outlet that when he and Taylor saw each other, they were able to have a "four-hour catch-up" about "life."
It seems that Taylor and Ed still remain close despite the ongoing rumors that their close friendship took a hit, after the Daily Mail reported that he wasn't informed about Taylor's release date for The Life Of A Showgirl.
Ed announced in May that he would be releasing Play on September 12, and just weeks later in August 2025, Taylor shared that she'd be releasing her latest album on October 3.
Taylor and Ed first established their bond in 2012 after he found out she wrote his lyrics on her arm during a show in Australia.
Later in 2012, Ed had a brief meeting with Taylor's manager in Nashville, and from then on the two went on to become besties.
