Meryl Streep opened up about the film industry and said Marvel movies have greatly impacted how newer films are being made
The Oscar winner said that movies nowadays tend to have the Marvel archetype of good vs. evil in their storylines
However, she said that fans shouldn't expect to see that in The Devil Wears Prada 2 because the film has more complex characters
Meryl Streep is sharing her honest opinion about the film industry.
While talking about her new movie, The Devil Wears Prada 2, on Hits Radio Breakfast Show, she said that fans can expect to see a new side of her character, Miranda Priestly, in the film.
“I feel like you get a realistic view,” the three-time Oscar winner, 76, said of Priestly's character evolution in the sequel. “I think we tend to Marvel-ize the movies now. We got the villains and we got the good guys, and it's so boring.”
“What's really interesting about life is that some of the heroes are flawed and some of the villains are human and interesting and have their own strengths," she added. "So that's what I like about this [movie]. It's messier.”
The new film sees Streep return as the iconic editor-in-chief Miranda Priestly, reuniting with Anne Hathaway's Andy Sachs, now Runway's newly appointed features editor. Together, the pair must work to woo Priestly's former assistant Emily Charlton (Emily Blunt) — now running Dior's U.S. operations — for ad dollars.

While speaking with PEOPLE recently, Streep reflected on revisiting her character all these years later.
For Streep, the experience was "kind of easy." "I think you keep these characters," she explained. "I liked discovering [Miranda] again."
Marvel Studios has two big releases this year: Spider-Man: Brand New Day (July 31, 2026) and Avengers: Doomsday (December 18, 2026). Streep has never appeared in a Marvel film.
The Devil Wears Prada 2 is now in theaters.
