BELLOWS FALLS — Bellows Falls Country Club (BFCC) announced the course was officially renamed the Governor Thomas P. The $250,000 naming gift from his family will allow BFCC to pursue several capital improvement projects and purchase major course equipment needs.

MONTPELIER — The city of Montpelier announced Shannon Carchidi will be the next director of Montpelier Senior Activity Center, as of June 22. All are welcome to attend a luncheon at noon Tuesday, June 30, at MSAC, free for those over age 60 with completed paperwork, a $10 suggested donation from those under age 60. Carchidi has been executive director since 2021 at North Central Vermont Recovery Center in Morrisville.
MIDDLEBURY — National Bank of Middlebury is matching community donations to the Addison Home Fund dollar for dollar, up to $5,000, through June 19. The fund supports Addison County Home Health and Hospice’s effort to renovate a newly purchased East Middlebury home into a residential care facility. JAY — Ski Vermont capped the 2025-26 ski season at its 57th annual meeting at Jay Peak Resort highlighting a winter of favorable weather, strong visitation and continued improvements at Vermont ski areas. Vermont’s ski industry reported 4.36 million skier visits for the 2025-26 season, an increase of 4.7% over the previous year. Vermont remains the top ski state in the East and fourth largest in the nation by skier visits. Ski Vermont’s cross-country areas reported 339,046 skier visits, up 5% from last season.
Bill Stritzler, owner of Smugglers’ Notch Ski Area, accepted an Industry Achievement Award. David Kaufman, a professor in UVM’s Parks, Recreation, and Tourism Program, was honored with a Friend of the Industry Award. Career Industry Awards were also announced for Callie McAllister (52 years of service) of Mad River Glen, and Kevin McKegney (42 years of service) who served as a ski patroller at Bolton Valley.
SHREWSBURY — Spring Lake Ranch Therapeutic Community announced Middlebury psychiatrist Dr. Dustin Dippen has been added to its team at the farm-based residential community for adults experiencing mental health challenges. This change comes as SLR’s long-time provider Dr. Jennifer Fauntleroy moves toward retirement. Dr. Dippen will join SLR’s psychiatric nurse practitioner Donald Grenier to serve residents on the main campus in Shrewsbury and in the aftercare program located in Rutland.
RUTLAND — Green Mountain Recovery Foundation Inc., doing business as Turning Point Center of Rutland, announced it has been certified by Vermont Department of Health as a Recovery Services Organization (RSO), effective June 1. The certification is valid for two years and authorizes the organization to enroll as a Medicaid provider and bill Medicaid for eligible, non-clinical recovery support services.
This certification recognizes Turning Point Center of Rutland’s compliance with Vermont’s Substance Use Disorder Recovery Standards and successful completion of the state’s Recovery Certification Compliance Assessment process.
— The University of Vermont committee searching for the next director of Extension and associate dean in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences will gather public input from another summer listening session from 2 to 3 p.m. Thursday, June 18. Vermont Agency of Agriculture, Food and Markets announced 34 grant awards totaling $1,000,000 to schools, early childhood programs, and Farm to School service providers in Fiscal Year 2026.
— Farm to School Service Provider Grant, $272,895 awarded to seven nonprofits, schools and early childhood programs.
— Farm to School and Early Childhood Grant, $227,105 awarded to 10 school districts and early childhood programs.
— Local Food for Schools and Child Care Community Supported Agriculture Grant, $200,000 to 13 early childhood programs and nonprofits.
— Local Food for Schools and Child Care Food Hub Grant, $300,000 to four nonprofit food hubs.
NORTH BENNINGTON — This spring, Vermont Arts Exchange welcomed students Lilly Jenkins and Viva Ratray from Mount Anthony Union High School’s Community Based Learning program that allows students to get out of the classroom and into the community working with businesses, organizations and individuals. The students worked in the recently re-launched VAE Ceramic Studio in North Bennington. This summer, Ratray will return to VAE as a paid teaching artist assistant in VAE’s Summer Art Camps.
NORTH SPRINGFIELD — The former Vermont Packinghouse, 25 Fairbanks Road in North Springfield, was recently sold in two subsequent transactions to a new ownership group led by longtime food service and distribution leader Louis Helbling.
The newly formed Vermont Packing & Trading 50,000-square-foot USDA facility processes and packages beef and pork from small- and medium-sized farms across New England. Vermont Packing & Trading is seeking new partners and producers across the Northeast.
CASTLETON — Vermont State Colleges (VSC) System Board of Trustees has awarded faculty emeritus status to Helen Mango in recognition of her career and contributions to Vermont State University and its predecessor institution, Castleton University.
Beginning her Castleton tenure in 1991, she served for more than three decades as a professor of geology and chemistry, and has secured 16 research grants and published in leading scientific journals and reference works on geochemistry and environmental geology. She also served as a visiting researcher at Argonne National Laboratory and held leadership roles in national disciplinary organizations.
She is currently authoring a book on Vermont geology for a general audience, teaches as a part-time faculty member, and is a caretaker for Castleton campus gardens.
BENNINGTON — At the San Francisco World Spirits Competition, this year’s global event saw Village Garage Distillery, of Bennington, awarded two medals: a Gold for Village House Gin in the category of American Gin, and a Silver for Village Bourbon in the Small-Batch Bourbon category. This announcement comes only a few months after Village Bonfire, the distillery’s smoked maple bourbon, was officially recognized by the Vermont Legislature for winning a Silver medal at SFWSC in 2025.
CASTLETON — The Village Thrift Shoppe has opened on Main Street, just east of the Post Office, in the Buel Building. Regular store hours are 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursdays and Fridays, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays; donated clothing and decorative household items may be dropped off during those times. A grand opening is planned for Saturday, July 25.
