Skagit County may not have any FIFA World Cup Fan Zones, but that does not mean the county lacks soccer fans.
At Terramar Brewstillery in Edison, about a dozen fans watched on a large projector screen Thursday as the United States men’s soccer team took on Turkey.
The small, passionate audience cheered on Team USA while drinking beer, cider, wine and cocktails, and eating pizza. Fans wore a mix of Team USA gear, World Cup T-shirts, and clothing in Team USA’s colors.
Although the United States lost to Turkey, patrons shared camaraderie by getting to know one another and handing out sweets to everyone in the room.
“It’s really a fun way to bring the community together and host the games, making this space available for people to come enjoy,” said Terramar co-owner and head brewer Greg Spore, who watched the game alongside patrons.
The next time Team USA plays, it will be a knockout match against Bosnia and Herzegovina at 5 p.m. Wednesday.
Along with Terramar, the game will be shown at the following locations in the county:
