Anthem ending coverage for Meridian Medicaid patients
Insurance firm Anthem will no longer cover care for Medicaid patients at Meridian Health Services facilities beginning July 25, according to a news release from Meridian.
The release says Anthem will continue to cover Meridian patients with private and commercial insurance. It indicates that the change will affect about 18,000 patients.
“Meridian Health Services is disappointed by Anthem’s decision to terminate its Medicaid contract,” said Seth Warren, Meridian Health Services CEO, in the release. “Right now, our priority is helping patients understand their options, so they may continue accessing the care they need from the Meridian clinicians they know and trust.”
Meridian has nearly 90 locations in Indiana, including two in Portland and one each in Winchester, Union City, Montpelier and Modoc. It also has several facilities in Muncie.
Lunch and learn set
Randolph County United will hold its next Lunch and Learn session at noon Wednesday, July 8, the organization’s boardroom.
The event will focus on training, retention, leadership styles and team culture. Participants will learn about strategies for employee motivation and building an engaged workplace culture.

Programs recognized
Multiple Ball State University education programs have earned top ratings for science of reading.
A review by Teacher Prep Inspection-US resulted in Ball State’s elementary, early childhood and special education programs receiving the highest rating of “Strong” for quality of literacy instruction, quality of field-based experience and quality of performance management and continuous improvement.
The National Council on Teacher Quality also awarded BSU an A+ for its undergraduate elementary teacher preparation program.
“This recognition affirms the exceptional work happening across Teachers College and reflects our deep commitment to preparing educators who are ready to meet the needs of children and schools across Indiana,” said Katrina Bulkley, dean of Ball State’s Teachers College, in a news release. “Strong reading instruction can change the trajectory of a child’s life, and Ball State is proud to prepare future teachers with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to help students become successful readers.”
Studio launches
IU Health announced last week that it has launched its enhanced 3D Print Studio in Indianapolis.
The studio is among the first FDA-cleared 3D printing programs based in a hospital. The new studio will produce 3D-printed models that are expected to reduce operating time, improve surgical approaches, offer enhanced education and communication, and improve diagnostic support.
“Being able to place a 3D‑printed, patient‑specific model in a parent’s hands changes the conversation,” said Dr. Jeremy Herrmann in a news release. “Families gain a deeper understanding of their child’s diagnosis and treatment when they can see and physically interact with the anatomy.”
VP appointed
Indiana University appointed Tom Froehle as its next vice president and general counsel.
Froehle most recently served as a partner at Faegre Drinker and has also worked for Honda, United Airlines and the NCAA. He will step into his new role on Aug. 17.
“Tom brings the experience and judgment required to advise a complex public university in a rapidly changing environment,” IU president Pamela Whitten said in a news release. “He understands how to move important work forward while fostering a culture of excellence and collaboration. His leadership will serve our students, faculty, staff and partners well as we build on the tremendous momentum underway at Indiana University.”
Partnering
Walmart announced last week that it has entered into an agreement to acquire Vibe.co.
Vibe.co is a connected TV advertising platform designed to simplify advertising for small- and mid-sized businesses and brands. The acquisition will be used to enhance Walmart Connect, the company’s commerce media business.
“Walmart Connect is focused on making commerce media more accessible, more measurable and easier to activate for advertisers of all sizes,” said Ryan Mayward, general manager and senior vice president of Walmart Connect U.S., in a news release. “Vibe.co has created a purpose-built platform that simplifies streaming TV advertising, and together, we can help more businesses connect with customers across streaming environments while measuring the impact of those campaigns through Walmart’s commerce capabilities.”
