Victor Muñoz is Liverpool’s new number 23.
Most fans are growing increasingly concerned this summer by the state of the Liverpool squad constructed by sporting director Richard Hughes, with just a little more than two weeks to go before the 2026-27 campaign kicks off and last season’s already thin and unbalanced team having lost veterans Mohamed Salah, Ibrahima Konaté, and Andy Robertson.
It’s not all bad news, though, with Hughes managing to get one deal done. Like six weeks ago now. Back during the 2026 World Cup group stage. Still, transfers are hard. Just don’t look at the business Manchester City and Chelsea and Tottenham have done. Or Aston Villa. Or Arsenal. So. Maybe they’re only hard if you’re Richard Hughes and have 4-5 holes to fill.
But anyhow, we’re not talking about the ways Liverpool’s sporting director is failing today. We’re talking about the one signing he’s made, who arrived at the AXA Training Centre for the first time after his post-World Cup holiday (seriously, Richard, it’s been like six weeks and we need a right back and centre back and…) to meet his new coaches and teammates.
As part of that, Muñoz has selected his squad number and will wear 23 for Liverpool (we’re not burying the lede we mentioned it in the dek—that bit just below the title). It’s the number Luis Diaz wore when he first arrived, as well as the number Xherdan Shaqiri and Emre Can used. Oh yeah, and Jamie Carragher. So. Best of luck, Victor! (and get to work, Richard)

Because Liverpool don’t already have enough work to do in the transfer window, I guess.
Well, that’s a little weird.
Is this Roberto De Zerbi’s supposed big transfer “bomba”?
I will not be attempting to pronounce this club.
The Reds have made their interest in Barcola clear today.
Rayan is reportedly a dream target, but the clause only kicks in 2027.
