A new media business headed by ex-Reach and National World executive Mark Hollinshead has kicked off its media portfolio with the acquisition of two specialist digital news publishers.
Hero Media and Entertainment Ltd acquired Dundee Press Agency Ltd and E News Now Ltd as of 31 March 2026, along with acquiring the assets of Daily Business Ltd in a separate transaction.
Dundee Press Agency and its sister company E News Now publishes a number of Scottish business titles including Scottish Legal News, Scottish Construction Now, Scottish Housing News and Scottish Financial News.
Its portfolio of digital publications boasts a collective reach of more than 55,000 newsletter subscribers and over 105,000 professional followers on LinkedIn.
Commenting on the recent purchases, Hollinshead said: “This is an exciting first set of acquisitions for Hero Media and Entertainment and an important step in our strategy to build a modern, digitally focused, video-led media company.”
It marks the first step in the media company’s ‘buy, build and launch’ strategy with plans to expand in digital news-publishing, video programming and live events, as well as to develop business news site ScottishNews.com into a new national and international digital news platform.
“The opportunity to relaunch Scottishnews.com as a brand-new online news site for Scotland is a compelling one,” added Hollinshead.
The acquisition deal also includes the Scottish Construction Summit, a new industry conference for Scotland’s construction and housing sectors, taking place in October 2026.
Graham Ogilvy, former Dundee Press Agency Ltd and E News Now Ltd owner, said: “Over the past two decades, we’ve built our online brands into market leaders in their relevant sectors.
“Now is the time to hand on the baton to the Hero Media & Entertainment team to take our successful specialist news sites to a new and innovative next stage of development.”
Ogilvy will stay on with the business to participate in the next stage of its development.
Edinburgh-based Daily Business Ltd is a 24/7 business news and politics website and newsletter launched in 2014 by former Sunday Times and Scotsman business journalist Terry Murden.
Commenting on the brand’s acquisition, Murden said, “building Daily Business Ltd has been a hugely satisfying experience and I am immensely grateful to all who have made it possible” and that he was “looking forward to taking it forward with its new owner”.
Moving ahead, Murden will take on the role of group executive editor working with the Scottish Financial News team to develop a new Scottish and UK wide business, finance and investment news platform.
Hollinshead said: “The titles acquired have outstanding reputations within their sectors, loyal professional audiences and highly engaged subscriber communities.
“We see significant opportunities to build on this foundation by investing in quality journalism, video content, new live events for each content category and expanded commercial partnerships.
“Simultaneously, harnessing the capabilities of AI to streamline workflows, source content and distribute stories to multiple platforms will support a content strategy built through the originality and uniqueness of our journalism.”
Former managing director of Insider Group, Mike Hartley, has also been appointed as chief revenue officer at the media firm.
Based in Glasgow, Hero Media and Entertainment was registered on Companies House in November 2025.
The company said further acquisitions and launches will be announced as it continues to expand its portfolio.
